Totally Stylin’ Tattoo Barbie
Posted by Kevin on December 27th, 2009On Christmas Eve, my little niece walked up to me and made a comment about her Barbie having tattoos just like mine. I didn’t know what in the world she was talking about, so she showed me her Totally Stylin’ Tattoo Barbie doll. Sure enough, there Barbie was, covered in tattoos.
Apparently Mattel released this back in the spring, and received some criticism from it. Mattel simply said it would not discontinue the doll, and claimed it “gives girls a chance to express themselves and be creative.” Now this isn’t the first time Mattel made a run at Tattooed Barbie. In 1999, they introduced Butterfly Art Barbie, but the dolls were quickly removed off the shelves after a number of complaints and protests.
I don’t really care one way or another about this, but I think it’s interesting. What do you think? Does Tattoo Barbie make a difference in the grand scheme of everything?
Below is the commercial for Totally Stylin’ Tattoo Barbie that aired in the spring when the doll was first introduced.
