Judge Judy

Who doesn’t love some midday Judge Judy?

Basically, Ashley, a sixteen year old female, decided to get a tattoo, unbeknownst to her Mother. The tattoo shop didn’t check her ID, instead they just took her $40 and gave her a gnarly heart puzzle piece on her shoulder. Mom eventually saw it, and was obviously a little pissed, and thinks the tattoo shop should float the $5,000 to have it removed.

Now, this is where it gets funny.

The tattoo shop had to say the following things in their defense:
“She willing did it, she was enjoying the tattoo. She laughed, she had fun.”
“She presented herself as an adult when she walked by the “No Minors” sign.”
“She sat in the chair all by herself, and she paid for the tattoo.”
“I can’t card everyone that walks through the door, that would be totally ridiculous.”

As funny as this is, it’s obvious it happens unfortunately too often, and I don’t think that’s ever going to change. Thankfully plenty of tattoo artists are more than willing to do a cover up.

Arrrgh. I was a bouncer and responsible for checking ID’s at the door. If an under age drinker got past me it was my job and the bar’s fine, end of story. Unless the parlor is doing a bigger business than a shore bar at happy hour, there should be no problem with checking the ID.

On the other side, it is dumber than a bucket of rocks to subject this under age idiot to painful tattoo removal. Let her keep it as a reminder to think before being stupid and decide for herself what to do with it after she is 18.

LoL… Even though the artists at my shop know me well (I’m working on a sleeve), they still card me AND take a photocopy of my ID on my paperwork EVERY TIME. Their excuses are not valid at all.
