Reverse psychology in advertising

Rhett & Link are a North Carolina comedy duo that happen to enjoy making funny commercials for local businesses in their spare time, free of charge. It was only a matter of time until a tattoo shop expressed wound up nominated. This is what they came up with for True Blue Tattoo in Austin, TX.

This does raise an interesting question, for me at least. Advertising for tattoo shops tends to be limited to small print ads in local alternative news sources–I can’t think of a single TV ad I’ve seen for a tattoo shop that didn’t make me cringe at least a little bit. Honestly, how do you sell your permanent body modifications without sounding tacky? Looks like embracing some of the humor in it may be the only way. Here’s a behind the scenes video too, if you’re interested.
