Editors of Tattoo Master & Skin Deep resign

Posted by Julene on August 3rd, 2010

According to an interview from Tattoo.tv, the editors of Tattoo Master and Skin Deep have resigned. In and of itself that might not mean anything, except for the fact Neil Dallywater and Alex Guest have stated they left after feeling their personal ethics were compromised by working for Jazz Publishing. I have little experience with either magazine aside from picking up copies at the book store, but this quote from the interview has me wondering if I’ll continue to purchase anything published by Jazz:

“Contributors have steadily declined their participation and asked that their submissions be removed, and more artists are coming to the fore to revolt over certain business practices.” –Alex Guest

Is this the kind of thing we, as tattooed consumers, need to be concerned about? The ethics of tattooers and the tattooed get called into question all the time: is it not important we support only companies that best represent us? From the sound of it, Guest and Dallywater have plans for a new project–quite possibly working together. Surely in the coming months we will have more information on these two’s plans for the future, but in the meantime I’d love to hear your thoughts on this! Will you continue to purchase either magazine? Why or why not?

Skin Deep has become little more than an advertisement for the 2 events put on by Jazz Publishing, Tattoo Jam and Tattoo Freeze.

Just looking at the artist list for TJ this year is enough to make you wonder if something isn’t afoot.

ummmm…can this entry be any more vague. Can we get some facts before banning these two magazines. I personally never bought these magazines anyway, but lets hear their side of the story before blacklisting them.

Jon, check out the link to the original interview. I was being as specific as possible with the limited information provided by the two (former) editors themselves in that interview. I’m not saying we should stop purchasing; I’m asking for insight & opinions from our readers.

    I stand corrected. Mea Culpa.

This is the owner of Jazz Publishing. Someone has a real problem with him and, not that I disagree, believes that he is bringing into disrepute the “industry” of tattooing. His history seems to indicate that he has no interest in anything but running a business and making money, before bailing out and liquidating companies. His name is not the best in the VW scene in the UK and it has been alleged that he has had run ins with other people in the past.

(I hope I am not out of order posting this here, please feel free to delete if you feel anything is untoward or unwelcome on this blog).

@JustDave – You’re in the clear, I asked for information and now I have received. You’re right though, whomever made that site is certainly not a fan of his.
