John has been a friend for more than 10 years and I carry some of his finest work. Words cannot express the sorrow, emptiness, and loss felt by his death. John’s great journey has just begun but for those of us who are left behind, we will be reminded daily of his fine art, great smile, and wonderful personality. Rest in peace my friend — GOD SPEED!!

This is a shock to all of us. I am now at Seabeck WA the place where john first discovered tattoos when he was 15 years old. I loved you, John. My thoughts are with those of us he left behind. From his dad. Peter.

Can someone please tell us how he died? I just spoke to him a few weeks ago and he seemed fine. No one mentioned he was sick or anything.

To the Joyes family, your son/brother and Father in just the couple months I Knew him made a forever lasting impression on me,we where just becoming friends. He had just finished two portraits of my daughter on me on 7/22/10 as well as Jordan did a piece on me the same day. Jordan also did tatoos on my wife and daughter as well on 7/22/10 the work done by father and daughter where outstanding I have a piece of John in my heart and on my body to see and remind me of John every day.In the many, but short hrs we got to know each other I came to find out how much we were alike & being just two yrs apart in age we seemed to have a lot in common. We were just becoming friends I just cant believe what has happend. He in my oppion was so full of life. I very much enjoyed meeting John and will truly miss him. Jordan we wish only the best for you and hope to see you soon ,GOD bless you.

To teh Joyes family, biker & tattoo family alike, I offer my condolences from Colorado. John tattooed me, we shared dinner at my home and he was a stand-up guy. I will remember the good times we shared in his loft.

    Peace

It’s tragic. He was a good father and amazing artist. He was very sick. He died of complications related to alcoholism.

I have known John for 10 years. I have several pieces by him and some of the best times I can remember are the hours and days I spent in his chair. I chose to spend my 50th Birthday with him last May getting a chest piece. I saw him several times over the last few months and he was in some of the best spirits and happiest I had seen him. Contrary to what I read in an earlier comment, I have been told by someone very close to him that I trust that his passing was of natural causes and had nothing to do with alcohol. I loved John like a brother, and will miss him forever.

I’ve just learned of John’s passing nearly a year ago. How very sad. Such a kind man. Ten years ago, when my best friend was dying of breast cancer, I learned of John’s art from a friend who had been beautifully tattooed by John for many years. He sported fabulous dragons and a full sleeve of some of the most amazing artwork I’ve ever seen.

Harold told me that John’s waiting list was months long. Patty didn’t have months to wait. I wanted a tattoo in her honor, that she could see before she left us. Harold said, “Call John. Tell him your story. Let him know I’ve sent you.”

John tattooed me 2 days later. Such a kind gift to both Patty and myself. I will always cherish his artwork…but, even more so, his thoughtfulness. Thank you, John…you will be missed.
