The Josh Duffy interview

Recently I had the opportunity to sit down and talk to Josh Duffy of MD Tattoo Studio. I didn’t have a formal list of questions to ask Josh, we merely just sat down and let the conversation go wherever it went. During the conversation, Josh talks to us about his style of tattooing, some of his favorite conventions, what it’s like to tattoo in Southern California, and he explains how he knows Jim Sylvia.

Artist Profile: Esther Garcia

There’s no two ways about it: Esther Garcia is a total badass. Not in the “take your milk money and send you home crying to your Mommy” way (though I wouldn’t rule it out). No, it’s more a feeling of, “damn girl, please make renditions of classical paintings on MY body!”

Artist Profile: Seth Ciferri

When Seth Ciferri agreed to do this interview, I had no doubt that it would be something else. As you continue to read this, I’m sure you’ll agree Seth did not disappoint.

I’m going to end the intro at that, and let you read more about Seth, his work, the new shop, and some of his thoughts.

Artist Profile: Scott Trerrotola

If you visit Tattoo Snob daily (like you should!) you’re already familiar with the work of Scott Trerrotola. While most of our previous posts featured Scott’s vibrant colors, his black and grey portfolio should not be overlooked. In our continuing effort to highlight the best in the business–especially those that have gone previously unrecognized–we present to you: Scott Trerrotola.

Featured Artist: Paul Marino

The funny thing about running a tattoo blog is the sheer number of people you see on here that I find by accident. I found Paul Marino‘s work originally after playing a game of “who’s that in your Top 8?” on several tattooers’ Myspace profiles. The first tattoo of his I remember seeing was this Young Frankenstein piece – but it certainly wasn’t the last one I took note of.

After posting a handful of tattoos from Paul, I realized I needed to take it a step further. He took the time to answer a few of my questions so we could all get to know him a little bit better.

Featured Artist: H-Bomb, a.k.a Heather McLean

Between her tattoos & her mural work, Heather McLean (also known as H-Bomb) is an artist all Tattoo Snobs should take note 0f. She hails from great frozen north of Canada, folks.  Based at Strange World Tattoo in Calgary, Alberta her work speaks louder than any introduction I can come up with. The photo below might have that handled, too.

Featured Artist: Amy Duncan

When I first came across Amy Duncan, it was quite by accident. A very happy accident, I must say. Tattooing for only six years out of Australia (please, someone keep me from making a “land down under” reference), this young lady is definitely worth keeping an eye on until she’s traveling to whatever nation you call home.

Featured Artist: Ryan Mason

Based out of Portland, Ryan Mason is surely an artist not to missed by anyone capable of finding themselves in his neck of the woods. The response he has received online to his unique style of tattooing is astonishing, much like his practice of booking no more than two months out. With less than 10 years in the industry under his belt, his level of skill can only be attributed to natural talent, despite his frequent protests that he’s “not an artist”.

Featured Artist: Timmy B

At the Richmond Tattoo Show last year (2009), I was told to check out a portfolio from a guy by the name of Timmy B. He wasn’t at his booth, but I looked through photos of his work –I was impressed, to say the least. As he approached the booth, I was shocked to see someone under the age of forty standing before me. At only twenty-three years old, Timmy has become the talk of the east coast over the past few years. This could be credited to his relentless travel schedule, but I think with work like his it was just a matter of time before his name was on the tip of everyone’s tongue.

Featured Artist: Guen Douglas

There’s a lot of reasons you may have heard of  Guen Douglas–she’s internet savvy, a fan of fine baked goods and hands out some mighty fine tattoos to anyone that crosses her path.We caught up with Guen about where she’s at, where she’s going, and most importantly: where you can meet up with her for a tattoo of your very own.
