This past weekend was the Seattle Tattoo Convention, and Channel 13 took a few minutes during their morning show to promote the event. They had Damon Conklin and Shawn Barber appear, and hype the convention and the wide world of tattooing. While most of the questions are pretty generic and somewhat comical, I suppose no press is bad press.
I just received the terrible news that John Joyes passed away. Our thoughts go out to his family and to everyone at State of the Art Tattooing.
RIP John.
According to an interview from Tattoo.tv, the editors of Tattoo Master and Skin Deep have resigned. In and of itself that might not mean anything, except for the fact Neil Dallywater and Alex Guest have stated they left after feeling their personal ethics were compromised by working for Jazz Publishing. I have little experience with either magazine aside from picking up copies at the book store, but this quote from the interview has me wondering if I’ll continue to purchase anything published by Jazz:
“Contributors have steadily declined their participation and asked that their submissions be removed, and more artists are coming to the fore to revolt over certain business practices.” –Alex Guest
Is this the kind of thing we, as tattooed consumers, need to be concerned about? The ethics of tattooers and the tattooed get called into question all the time: is it not important we support only companies that best represent us? From the sound of it, Guest and Dallywater have plans for a new project–quite possibly working together. Surely in the coming months we will have more information on these two’s plans for the future, but in the meantime I’d love to hear your thoughts on this! Will you continue to purchase either magazine? Why or why not?

The folks over at Hope Gallery Tattoo were not pleased to see a photo of one of Joe Capiobianco’s tattoos used in a print ad by AJ Tattoo out of Trenton, NJ.
While Joe is clearly no stranger to having people try to rip him off, I understand his outrage. Isn’t it at least customary to try to conceal the fact that you’re trying to pass another artist’s work off as your own? Better yet, maybe they should have chosen an artist with a less recognizable style than Joe’s. Somehow I doubt AJ Tattoo gives a fuck about those little details, or even thought Joe would wind up seeing their ad… yet another instance when I saying, “bless you, sweet Internet” is completely appropriate.
I can’t help but wonder if the guys over at AJ will ever issue an apology to Joe (unlikely) or better yet, stick to using only photos of their own work in the future. What do you think, Snobs?
Seems that Craig Beasley is in the process of opening his own shop, Monument Tattoo. According to his Twitter, the shop will be located in Tallahassee, FL and construction has already started.
Previously Craig was always on the road and fairly hard to pin down–I imagine a line is already forming outside of the shop.

A new website has been launched by photographer extraordinaire, Sylvia Hagar. The website features all of Syl’s work, including her tattooed portraits and pin ups that are featured in Prick Magazine.

As an iPhone user, one of the things I love is the wide variety applications I can download. Some I use every day, while others are ‘just in case.’ Within that that last grouping falls the novelty apps, and I don’t think creater Jeremy Swan Jeremy Swan would be offended if I said iTattoo Artist fits in that genre.
iTattoo Artist transforms your iPhone into a tattoo machine, simulating the sounds and basic vibration of a machine. Release the grip and the machine will come to a halt… and the blood splatter will be wiped up on screen. Three different needles are available– the liner, the shader, or the close up if you’re going for those tight details.
From the second I started playing with the iTattoo Artist, I immediately thought of the little kids that wants to talk to me about tattoos. I’m looking forward to the day where a little boy tells me he wants one, and I can entertain him with this app.
For 99¢, the iTattoo Artist is a fun application, and worth the download for anyone who is looking for a little tattoo fun.
The video for Game’s newest single was filmed a couple days ago, and will feature Peter Koskela. I don’t know what Peter has tattooed on Jayceon, but hopefully he didn’t have anything to do with that butterfly disaster.
Apparently Jason Maybruck had such a good time at the Philly Tattoo Convention in March, he’s decided to permanently move there come September.
He’s still in the process of figuring out what shop he’ll be tattooing at, but I’m sure he’ll find a home soon with work like this.
