One ring to rule them all

I’ve never been a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, but I can’t dispute the quality of Jamie’s latest work. As you can see below, the sleeve is a cover up that a previous artist started. When asked about the previous work, Jamie said “Another artist started it but he was awful. I think he was on drugs.”

Hopefully we can all learn something from Jamie’s misfortune. No, not about drugs – about picking the right artist from square one. Make sure to research your artist, talk to them, try to see pieces they’ve done in person. It really makes a difference.

Down with the killer clown?

I can’t be the only one that was absolutely petrified after I saw Steven King’s “IT.” Granted, I was in 7th grade at the time and shouldn’t have spent the next week staying up all night to avoid the psychotic clown under my bed… but I wasn’t left with many other options. Anyway, the little doozie below sent me right back to checking under the bed. Thanks for the ego-check, Spiro.

Friday the 25th

Well, today isn’t the 13th but it is a Friday. That’s reason enough to pay tribute to Jason Voorhees right?

A collaboration that’ll melt your face

I think of collaboration piece as the ménage à trois of tattooing. Who approaches who? Do you talk it out with your tattoo artist first to find out who he or she is into? Which tattoo artist takes control? Who does what? Who goes first? What if someone wants to try something different?

In all seriousness, it does seem like a complicated process. I’d love to get a collaboration tattoo, but I honestly don’t know how to approach it. I have a feeling a number of collectors and tattoo artists feel the same as I do, and sometimes it’s just easier to just have one amazing artist do the piece. I’m sure when you have a number of artists working together in the same shop (such as All or Nothing,) the process can come together pretty easily. That seems like the story for the piece below.

Awakening flower

I’d love to know more of a back story behind why Christy picked an orchid. I’m not complaining, you unfortunately don’t see too many orchid tattoos of this detail.

No such thing as Bigfoot!

Let’s take a step back to the tail end of the 80′s for a second so as to fully appreciate this tattoo of Harry from  “Harry and the Hendersons”.
