The Hannya Mask Project

On Saturday, November 19th, Nix Herrera and Ant Iannucci of Ascension Tattoo will hold a benefit at Twelve21 Gallery for the 2011 Tōhoku Earthquake and Tsunami victims in Japan.

The exhibition features 50 hand-painted Hannya Masks, by some of America’s best tattoo artists, conventional artists, sculptural artists, and body painters. All pieces being sold via silent auction both at the premiere night and online. A larger percentage of the proceeds will be sent to the Red Cross for the Japanese relief effort.

On November 19th, all masks will be posted on HannyaMaskProject.com for your viewing pleasure, and to be auctioned off. Until then, stay up to date by signing up for the e-mail list, also available at HannyaMaskProject.com.

The mash-up

I’m really liking the results I’ve been seeing when a tattooer meshs one traditionally-styled tattoo subject with another style of artwork. This tattoo by Hoffa shows exactly what I’m talking about–how well executed is that? I can only assume I’ll see more stuff like this in the future… in abundance, I hope.
