Hand Made

This isn’t the newest tattoo in Fabian Danger De Gaillande’s portfolio, but it’s one of my favorites. You really have to hand it to Fabian, it’s pretty amazing.

Pin-up Day: Chubby Mummy

Before anyone gets all body-dysmorphia’d out, chubby mummy is just a cute title. I am in no way judging or making assumptions about this undead babe’s physique. (Her hair, however, is another story.)

The Bright Side

Having a rough day? Cheer up, it’s almost the weekend.

Tasty holiday treats

You have to love marketing – for every holiday, there’s a particular sweet that comes to mind: Cadbury eggs for Easter, beer for St. Patty’s day, pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving… and a the winter holidays involve too many to mention.

For me, a Terry’s chocolate orange is the crème de la crème of Christmas treats. I can’t finish a whole one if my life depends on it, but I’ll be damned if that stops me from trying!

Ryan Smith is heading over to Westside Tattoo in Brisbane January 5th-19th for a guest spot.

If you’re looking to get yourself some of this, I suggest you contact him to find out if he has any openings!

Not a Foo

I thought that “Foo Dog” was another term for Chinese Shishi lions–apparently, that’s not the case at all. From Wikipedia:

Chinese guardian lions, known as Shishi lions (Chinese: 石獅; pinyin: shíshī; literally “stone lion”) or Imperial guardian lion, and often incorrectly called “Foo Dogs” in the West, are a common representation of the lion in pre-modern China.

If any of you can recommend a thorough primer in Chinese (and hell, Japanese while we’re at it) symbolism, especially as it applies to tattoos, I would be forever grateful.

New and mysterious

I don’t know much about Chris Nieves, and I’m striking out on finding an official website/homepage for his tattoo work. The only thing I do know is he lives in Australia, and he’s something else. If anyone knows his official website, I’d love to look through his portfolio.

This is not a game

After spending an inordinate amount of time trying to Google what video game ever involved Kirby with a paintbrush, I’ve come to the conclusion either there wasn’t one or there was and my Google’s broken. Probably the last one, right?

Aren’t you too old for a tattoo?

It’s Sunday. If you’re on the east coast, there’s a good chance it’s raining. If you’re on the west coast, chances are your friends aren’t awake yet. Take two minutes and watch this video of an untraditional clients first tattoo.

Hats off to to Nick Grimsdale for this great video. It’s short and fun, and it really made my morning.
