All the damn red

While I’d love to see what this tattoo looks like when it isn’t so fresh, I can make due for the time being. That’s the only downer of getting photos of a brand new black and gray piece from anyone; all the damn red!

Video: More goodness from David Tevenal

Last week we received a great response from David Tevenal’s flash video, so I think it’s safe to say everyone will enjoy this one as well.

Oh, and tattoo artists should take note. It’s pays to know a good video guy.

Video: Ten years of Hell City

I was watching the 2012 Hell City promo earlier when I heard Durb Morrison say next year is the ten year anniversary. Wow, where has the time gone?

If you’ve never been to a Hell City before, you really need to go. Talk to any tattoo artist and regular tattoo convention attendee, and they’ll all say the Hell City shows are really one of the best shows of the year.

Engineered to Destroy

It’s always nice when you’re able to see a larger detailed photograph of an amazing tattoo.

The Future of Tattooing is…

The way to best complete the sentence above is going to vary depending on who you ask. According to Gunnar, the answer is simple: community.

There’s a line that goes, “You don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone.” I think at some point whether it’s due to a broken relationship, a lost loved-one or something as small as losing a pair of sunglasses it’s a relevant statement. But I recently realized that sometimes you don’t don’t know what you had ’til you open your eyes and mind and discover it…

Over the last few years I had really dialed my travels back. I have been tattooing for nearly 15 years so there was a point where I just got burnt out. The conventions and the industry started to become a dog-and-pony show. It seemed the industry was more fashion and ego, and less about the value of camaraderie and discovery.

OHSK8

The combination of tattoos and skateboards is nothing new, but I don’t think people will ever get tired of painting decks and checking them out. Here’s the OHSK8 video from the show at Short North Tattoo in Columbus, Ohio. Props to Phil Chester who created the video.

The Durb Morrison Interview

It’s hard not to know who Durb Morrison is. Between his tattooing, running Hell CityTrue TubesPint Sized Paintings and all of the other side projects he has going on – you’ve seen his name somewhere. But what do any of actually know about him?

We recently sat down and talked to Durb about his time in the tattoo industry, opening his first tattoo shop with $500, and creating the Hell City Tattoo Festival.

Fox Day: Very slick

Every time I see a slick lookin’ fox in a tattoo, I can’t help but think of Foulfellow from Disney’s version of ‘Pinocchio’. Which is funny, since all the slick foxes in Disney animations from the 40′s pretty much look the same.

Don’t drink alone

Gunnar blessed me with this “drunk frog , wearing a bear suit” so I would never drink alone again.

Kinda makes your favorite drinking buddy look a little dull by comparison, eh?
