What happened to the new skool?

Julene and I were talking about the fact that we don’t see a ton of ‘new skool’ tattoo work. Neither of us could really pinpoint why that is. The work is bright, interesting, and it’s amazing when it’s done right.

If anyone has an opinion on why that is, please feel free to leave it in the comments below. I’m interested to hear what everyone has to say.

Crystals and creepy critters

I feel like we’re seeing an upsurge in creepy-crawlies in tattooing again; which is great, since I can only look at so many unicorns before I feel a little burnt out. While I’m sure the crystal isn’t a reference to The Dark Crystal, I’ve seen more than a handful of crystals in tattoos as of late. Is this a new thing I just didn’t notice before?

Up ya space game

When I saw these tattoos, all I could think about was that China has announced plans for an aggressive state-sponsored program to launch space labs and prepare to build space stations over the next five years. [source]

It’s been too long Jason!

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Jason Ackerman, but have no fear, he’s still doing quirky tattoos as always. I love Jason’s work, but I sometimes wonder if people come to him with wild ideas or if he proposes them to his clients?

Who the hell is Stuart Daniel Baker?

If you don’t know what’s going on here, it’s totally okay. I didn’t either–so I asked. The Dracula-styled dude below happens to be the face of Stuart Daniel Baker–better known as the voice of Early Cuyler from Squidbillies. (He’s also the alt country musician. Unknown Hinson, FYI.)

Through the looking glass

Outside of hair salons and barber shops, I feel like hand mirrors have become a thing of the past. Agree? Disagree?
