Picasso appreciation

A portrait of Pablo Picasso with one of his paintings as the background? This tattoo is taking “art appreciation” to a whole new level.

Tattoo Wishlist: Shige from Yokohama

Given that most of us don’t make it to Japan with any regularity, tattooers like Shige usually wind up on our “want but cannot have” list. That’s okay though, a little art appreciation never hurt anyone. Here’s a newer piece of Shige’s courtesy of the Yellow Blaze Tattoo Studio website.

Iwach’s lion

I can’t put my finger on what about this lion has caught my eye–it’s different. I almost tagged this post with “Japanese lion” except it’s not… but it is? I’m into it.

Bad for business

I don’t know too much about the geisha aside from the limited research I’ve done online & what movies have show me… but I’ve got to say that if this happened in real life, it’d be pretty bad for business.

Fully back-ed piece

I keep trying to think of something witty/funny/entertaining to say except I don’t think words can even really begin to do justice to this tattoo. This may be one of the few instances where I feel a picture is truly worth a thousand words (at least on this blog).

Tattooing from the Orient

Tim Kern just got back from Tokyo, and spent some time tattooing over there (one example below.) He updated his Twitter here and there, but clearly the best thing he posted was this.

I don’t know much about Japan, but considering this article was written in 2008, I think it’s safe to say the tattoo culture is slightly different than here in the US. Now whether that’s a good thing or bad thing – that’s a whole separate conversation.
