I try to balance the amount of color versus black and grey we post on the site, but let’s be honest – the color vastly outweighs the black and grey. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but it definitely makes me appreciate amazing black and grey work when I see it.

Yesterday I asked you what you wanted to see in 2012 from Tattoo Snob. We received a ton of great feedback, but more theme days and details about what we see in great tattoos were said more than once. With that being said, we obviously heard you on more theme days and I’m going to (briefly) talk about why I love this tattoo.

I’m not a tattoo artist. I’m merely a collector and a fan. So I won’t be discussing tattoo tricks or how to make something look a specific way, instead I’m just going to talk about my favorite part of this tattoo. Look at the lingerie. The transparency of this is something else. Look at the wrinkles in the fabric, and where the the fabric overlays her body and other objects. Wow, right?

The haters will probably leave a snide anonymous comment about her left hand, or her right elbow being soft. Don’t pay attention to that. This is most likely the first sitting for a tattoo, and a quality tattoo artist like Keith Ciaramello will fix both of those things in a second pass.

Welcome to Pin-up Day!

When Julene and talked about what theme days to do in 2012, we both had the pin-up near the top of our list.

The pin-up girl is an art that goes back to the early 1900′s, and really took off in the 30′s. I don’t know why that is exactly, but I would have to guess it’s because of the advancements in photography and all of the soldiers away at war? Again, I don’t know but that’s my best guess. If anyone does know, leave a comment below.

My favorite thing about Duncan X (aside from his tattoos) is that his website isn’t a fucking mess. No Flash, no hard to use menus, no tiny buttons I have to hunt around for to turn off the music that auto-plays once the site is fully loaded… just a good representation of his work and straightforward contact information. Simplicity is where it’s at, folks.
