This Saturday, August 20th, Black Hive Tattoo are having ‘Sailor Jerry Saturday.’ Instead of trying to list all of the nitty gritty rules out, I’m going to copy and paste them straight from their website:

All the designs are priced from $60-$120 on the arm or leg (no elbows, no knees) and 50% more for chest or shoulderblade (no stomachs, ribs, or lowerbacks for this event).

The usual rules apply : first come, first served. Put YOUR name and phone number down and you can leave, as long as you can return within 15 minutes of your call back. If you do not return in a timely manner, or don’t answer the call back, we go to the next name on the list. NO calls, texts, or emails will be taken to secure a spot. You must stop by in person. Also, you can only put your name. If some one is not present, they will have to wait to put their name down until they get there.

A little something different this time though: each artist will have a set number of tattoos they are doing this time. Once an artists list has been exhausted, you will have to pick another artist. You CAN put down your first choice in case someone doesn’t show later in the day, but you should definitely pick an alternate if your first pick is booked.

Sailor Jerry hits Ink-N-Iron

Last weekend was the Ink-N-Iron Festival in Long Beach, and while we didn’t make it out, Sailor Jerry was there celebrating Sailor Jerry’s birthday. If Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins was still alive on Sunday, June 12th, it would have been his 100th birthday. At 5pm on the 12th, a toast was made by Crazy Eddie to his beloved friend. From what I’m told his tribute did not disapoint, and he stuck to his traditional “Fuck Chicago, Fuck Sailor Jerry.”

In honor of Sailor Jerry’s 100th birthday, Sailor Jerry Rum is kicking off “Hold Fast Celebration.” Fleets of custom Airstreams will be hitting the open road this summer, visiting tattoo conventions, musical festivals, and everywhere in between. The Airstreams will hit the road starting in June, and will spend the rest of the summer burning across the highways and back roads of the United States. Sharon, A.K.A. Ms. February, posted an outtake from the 2010 Sailor Jerry Calendar. Sorry about the poor picture quality, but I had to post it. I don’t know what it is, there’s just something about that homely tan bikini, especially when you see it on a real woman.

Below the picture is a new commercial from the Sailor Jerry brand. It looks like some video of the calendar shoot is edited in there as well . . . .

Correction: Hori Smoku screening

I noticed a typo today when I was searching the site. The Hori Smoku screening is actually TUESDAY night, not Saturday night like I originally wrote. Oops!

If anyone does attend, we’d love to see some pictures and get a full report!

If you happen to be in the San Francisco area on Saturday night, you definitely need to clear your schedule to check out the free Hori Smoku Sailer Jerry documentary. The Roxie Theater will be hosting the event, with the doors opening at 7pm, and the screening starting at 8pm. A short Q&A will take place prior with the director, Erich Weiss. RSVP is required, and they stress to be there early, as seating is limited. Oh, and the event is 21+ (sorry kids.) An after party is being held at Blondie’s, which will feature a live band and plenty of Sailor Jerry’s rum.

If you haven’t seen the preview for this, I urge to take a second and watch below. I’ve watched all of the clips over and over again, and I can’t wait to see it. I’ve also determined that I really want to have a conversation with Philadelphia Eddie Funk. Can anyone make this happen?

Everyone I know that’s seen the documentary, has enjoyed it. I know it’s been shown at a handful of tattoo conventions, but I haven’t been lucky enough to catch it yet.

If you can’t make the event, and haven’t seen it yet, you’ll just have to wait. It comes out on October 13th, and you can pre-order it now.
