Board to Lose the book

During the Salt Lake City Tattoo Convention, one of the exhibits that gained a lot of attention was the Board to Lose gallery. Featuring one hundred skateboards painted by different artists, the gallery made a small tour around different events in the country. Since then, all one hundred of the boards have been documented and a book has been published. For more information on the book, and to purchase a copy for yourself, click here.

Board to lose

While painting skateboard decks with tattoo inspired art is nothing new, it’s a subject that always seems to go over well. The idea for a book full of painted skateboards seems like a huge win, and that’s exactly what Board to Lose is. Here are the details:

“Board to Lose is about two things: skateboarding and tattoos. For some people these two things fit together like legos.

100 blank skateboards were mailed to tattooists that skate. Some of them made it back, some didn’t. A few boards came in from tattooists that had the need to be a part of the project. There was no guidline on what to paint on these boards. After the boards were completed we photographed the decks to make the book, “Board to Lose.”

We first showed the boards at the Salt Lake City International Tattoo Convention. After SLC TATTOO we have plans to hang the show and do some skating at Skatelab and Pharmacy/Department of Skateboarding.

Keep your eyes open for a grip of tattooed skaters showing up at your spots. Help spread the word and ask your homies to add us.”

Best tattoo contest category ever?

Could this be the best tattoo contest category ever?

Having a “worst tattoo” contest is nothing new, but the winning entry’s prize involving a bucket of rocks and a gift certificate toward have it removed is genius. This is just one of the many events going on at the Salt Lake City Tattoo Convention this weekend. If you’re interested in entering, or just looking for a laugh, details of the contest can be found here.
